Anne's practice draws upon personal experience to interrogate and mitigate the impacts of erasure on Disabled, Queer, Working Class lives throughout Queensland and Australia as a whole.
In basing her work on her dedicated local and international archival research, Anne strikes out at the Anglo-centric isolationist perspectives inherent to these localised and wider acts of erasure.
Focusing on drawing, wood sculpture, and ornamentation, Anne reclaims the visual language of decadence to celebrate the uncouth and private experiences otherwise derided in Australian society.
Utilising woodworking skills developed in both Kyoto, Japan, and Australia, she explores process of hand wood carving from the sourcing of the timbers, to the material finish in various lacquers, gilding, burning, and painting methods
Developing works that invite amused curiosity through uncanny familiarity and narrative series, she directly asks audiences to imagine a different, more accepting and accomodating future, based on a more open and honest view of the past.
